Should your ads point at the homepage?
Sometimes. Usually not. Here's how to tell.
The homepage is built for everyone: existing customers, job seekers, vendors, and buyers. Paid traffic is one specific person with one specific question.
A dedicated page usually wins because it removes every choice except the one you want. But there are real exceptions.
How to decide
Send to a landing page when…
You're advertising one service, running a specific offer, targeting one area, or spending enough that a few points of conversion rate matters.
The homepage is fine when…
You're running brand campaigns, your homepage already leads with the exact service being advertised, or spend is too small to justify a build.
What actually causes the lift
Message match and reduced choice — not stripping the navigation for its own sake.
How to prove it
Run both for a few weeks against the same campaign and compare cost per qualified lead, not conversion rate alone.
Questions we get
- Does Google penalize landing pages?
- No. Quality Score rewards relevance, so a well-matched landing page usually lowers your cost per click.
- Should the landing page be indexed?
- If it's genuinely useful, yes. If it's a near-duplicate variant, canonicalize it.
